‘In My Room’ remains one of Brian Wilson’s best, and most melancholic songs that currently shows us its true dimension, while we still have to spend more and more time in ‘our rooms,’ waiting for the virus pandemic to finally start winding down. Will it, how and when, is still a waiting game for all of us.
Of course, while we’re there, music remains one of the limited recourses we have, and The Beach Boys classic is sure to be among those.
While we are at it, maybe trying one of these wouldn’t be such a bad thing.
Pick A Piper - Parakram
Brad Weber, who is also a member of Caribou, also acts as a producer, record label co-founder, but also releases his own music as Pick A Piper.
Preparing to release a new EP, ‘Parakram’ is one of those moody trance tracks that will work as both a good listening experience and something to move around to while among four walls.
Boulevards - Better Off Dead
Not sure to whom Jamil Rashad, aka Boulevards aims the title of the lead-off track from his new album, but you surely shouldn’t take it personally. Still, it is an excellent movie soundtrack-like introduction to some groove soul that seems to permeate his album.
Kramer - The Rain
Back to the more melancholic side of things, producer extraordinaire Kramer comes up with another slice from his new album, showing that his knowledge and understanding of all things connected with psychedelic music remains impeccable.
My Brightest Dimond - I Have Never Loved Someone (new version)
My Brightest Diamond hasn’t been heard of for a while now. To bring things back on a right track, she just released a new version of one of her better-known tracks. This time she is backed by Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and German conductor Andreas Delfs. Quite haunting.
Mike Adams At His Honest Weight - I Don’t Want To Believe In Anything
Another anniversary, another reworking. Mike Adams, issued ‘Oscillate Wisely,’ a critic’s favorite album ten years ago. Now, along with the album’s reissue, comes a companion album of re-worked original tracks, where ‘I Don’t Want To Believe In Anything” speaks volumes about the current mood going around.
Lindy-Fay Hella & Dei Farne - The Lake
Dreaming or daydreaming is certainly one of the things that we do quite often when alone, so it is no wonder that this song by this Norwegian music collective inspired by dreams touches the right nerve now.
The PR note describes it quite right: Synth drones and fluid melodies are deftly woven together with the organic sounds of an acoustic piano, guitars, harmonium, and percussion/drums, elevated into something larger than life by Lindy-Fay’s extraordinary, expressive vocal style.
CIVIC TV - Black Moon
CIVIC TV is the brainchild of Toronto songwriter Lowell Sostomi, and on this one, he is yet another artist that hits the current mood perfectly well. Don’t expect the accompanying animated video to lift it, but you can enjoy it, nonetheless.
