Even If It's Dry The Heat Can Still Make It Heavy
The heat is not going away, maybe music can help, at least for a second…
“The Wood Dry But It Still Heavy
The Wood Dry But It Still Heavy
So Dry, Bone Dry” (Burning Spear, “Dry And Heavy’)
Winston Rodney, aka Burning Spear, had something else in mind when he wrote the lyrics to one of his classics, but you can be sure he felt the heat, excruciating heat when he did.
That excruciating heat seems to be coming in waves with no sign of abating, on the contrary. And it will keep coming, and we seem to be doing nothing about it. After all, it was us that brought it along.
Until something is really done about it, we all need to find some release from the heat, and good music just might be one way to go about it.
Lingua Ignota - Perpetual Flame Of Centralia
One way to get relief from heatwaves is to try and “wash and cleanse every stain” the motif Kristin Hayter, aka Lingua Ignota takes up for her next album from which the above track comes up. Washing every stain from the climate change we provoked will take time and effort. Until then we have to deal with pain, as Hayter does here with things from her past.
Jennah Barry - Venus In Heat
“This song is about the first few days of falling in love when you feel great and terrible all at the same time.” So goes Jennah Barry in this excellent ballad that shows her ‘Holiday” album from last year was no fluke. Just a love song, but it can certainly go a long way during the heat.

Kris Rogers & The Dirty Gems - Take Me To The Pilot
You can think all you like about the pap Elton John is coming up with these days, but early on, and for a while, he was coming up with some excellent pop. Portland Maine’s Kris Rogers and his Dirt Gems go a long way to prove the point with this very good version that gets close to the quality of the original.
Tennis System - Dizzy
Tennis System's Matty Taylor says, "Dizzy" is about the time I had during the pandemic to reflect on myself. I used that time to really dive deep inside me and decide what I wanted out of life, or what’s left of it.” And then you get the heat on top of that. And yes, it does make you reflect too.
Shortly - Science
Yes, we certainly need science to get out of this crazy situation. Your youth is certainly every one of us thinks about at some time or other and so does Shortly (aka Alexandria Maniak) here in this reflective ballad that goes a long way to announce ‘Dancer,’ the forthcoming album
Ibrahim Hesnawi - Tendme
Habibi Funk already came with an excellent compilation of modern music from the Middle East, and now the second volume is on the way. We started out with (possibly) some heat-reducing reggae from Burning Spear, and it might be just right to end it this week with yet another swaying reggae number, this time from Libya and Ibrahim Hesnawi.
